About Me

Minga Prather, a Dallas native, is a dancer based in New York City. She began her training at Booker T Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, graduating in 2014 with Highest Honors. Whilst in school, she had the pleasure of performing works by Jessica Lang, Dwight Rhoden, and Robert Battle. After graduation, she moved to New York City to attend the Ailey/Fordham BFA in Dance program, performing with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in their 2016 City Center and Lincoln Center seasons, in Memoria and Revelations. In 2018, Prather graduated Cum Laude with Departmental Honors in Dance, finishing her junior and senior years of university performing full-time with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. Other performance credits for Prather include Mark Morris Dance Group (member), performing numerous leading roles in infamous works, as well as performing in Marc Jacob's star-studded show for New York Fashion Week and Vogue Magazine featuring designs by Alexander Wang.

Prather is currently employed at The Metropolitan Opera, performing in productions such as Lucia Di Lammermoor (principal, Simon Stone), Rigoletto (Bartlett Sher), Orfeo ed Eurydice (soloist, Mark Morris), and in the upcoming production The Hours (Phelim McDermott) based on the 2002 Oscar-winning film. Most recently, Prather performed in the Tony Award-winning revival Oklahoma! (National Tour) as their alternate lead dancer. Prather has been recognized as a National YoungArts Winner in Modern Dance in 2014--one of 20 chosen out of over 11,000 applicants that year--and was later nominated to become a Presidential Scholar of the Arts.

Why Dance?

"My goal is to continue to share my passion for dance with audiences everywhere through all platforms and medias. I have a versatile background with training in tap, jazz, house, flamenco, ballet, and modern. I move with intention, agility, curiosity, and intuition. I define dance as the purest form of self expression through raw, visceral, and elegant movement."
